Costume help please!

I'm doing a pirate costume, & I could use your help:  I have big-#ss feet & if I got boots, I'd have to have them custom made.  But I can't get the custom boots in time for Ad Con.  I have two other options, I could wear boot-tops over black shoes or I could wear colonial shoes with the big buckles.  I CAN get the colonial shoes in time for Ad Con.

I respect everyone's opinion here, so please tell me what you think:  boot-tops or colonial shoes?

Follow-up:  I did order the colonial shoes, should have them in hand soon.  Not as cool as boots I'll admit, but a LOT cheaper. 

Wouldn't it be nice if we were all millionaires & could buy whatever we wanted?

I'm gonna change my riot gear around a little and buy me a helmet and paint in navy blue like my gear and go as a cobra trooper.  Was working on a Tie Pilot outfit but gave up.
